I've been watching Tim Kulas skate since the days of copers
and fish tails (for research purposes see Splendid Eye Torture,
from Blockhead, or footage from G&S). Tim was pretty well
known as being a hell raiser, not only on his skateboard, but
in the
general game of life we all play. I think he got his ass kicked
a few times and mellowed out, but his past shines through now
and again.
Tim's the kind of skateboarder who will decide mid contest run
to try something he has never ever tried before, and land it
sparkling clean. He
is always skating at break-neck speeds doing long ass grinds
and huge ass airs. If you ever get to see him skate watch how
he does grabs... he barely
touches his board. He'll bust a head high indy and put one finger
on the edge of his deck sort of just guiding it along under his
bent legs. It's nutty. He rides for Beer City now, but Tim has
been sponsoored by different companies off and on through his
life of skating which goes back further than I can guess. If
you ever get to go through some old 411's you will see him pop
up in different issues at different contests. In Cigar City,
a video about Tampa Flroida, he busts this double set all the
way over both sets of stairs and the sidewalk. What the shit?
Between way back when and now Tim worked at the Skatepark of Tampa, built X-Games courses and skateparks with Team Pain, learned to play a mean guitar...not to mention however many other instruments, went to school, worked at a greenhouse, grew earth worms to compost his waste, got drunk, went kayaking, done yoga, camped countless times, and probably ate some granola. Have you gathered the point yet? He's always doing something, and when hes not learning or experiencing he's skating everything from huge double sets to vert ramps. His nickname has for a long time been Kooky Kulas, but i heard Brian Schaeffer call him "Tim Kulas, the dirty rat faced undercover millionaire". Tim has been skating for longer than you've been shitting on toilets, and he's been skating 15 times better than you the entire time.
